Description
Rotala sp. "Cambodia" ist eine prächtige feinblättrige Stängelpflanze, die noch relativ selten und wenig bekannt ist. Der Handelsname legt nahe, dass sie aus Kambodscha (englisch: Cambodia) eingeführt wurde. Sie wurde inzwischen als eine Form von Rotala wallichii bestimmt, wir behalten aber vorerst den Namen R. sp. "Cambodia" bei. Es ist noch zu klären, ob sie das Gleiche wie Rotala sp. "Enie" ist.
Diese Pflanze unterscheidet sich von herkömmlicher Rotala wallichii durch einen auffällig braunroten Stängel und ist auch einfacher in der Kultur. Von der ähnlichen Rotala sp. "Vietnam" unterscheidet sie sich durch kürzere Blätter und dunklere, eher rötliche Farbtöne. Die Triebe werden bis über 40 cm lang und etwa 3 cm breit. Der weiche Stängel ist 1 mm dick und hat sehr feine, etwa 2 cm lange und 0,6 mm breite submerse Blätter. Diese sind olivgrün bis hell-braunrot, oft auch in pinken Tönen gefärbt und stehen meistens zu acht in Quirlen an den Stängelknoten. Der Abstand zwischen den Quirlen beträgt etwa 1 cm. Die Triebe verzweigen sich mäßig.
Die Ansprüche von Rotala sp. 'Cambodia' sind denen von normaler Rotala wallichii ähnlich, die Pflanze ist recht schnellwüchsig. Gute Versorgung mit Makro- und Mikronährstoffen, CO2-Zugabe, eher weiches Wasser sowie viel Licht sind zu empfehlen. Temperaturen von etwa 22 bis 28 °C. sind günstig. Man pflanzt am besten eine Gruppe, indem einzelne Triebe oder Büschel aus wenigen Trieben mit wenig Abstand zueinander in den Boden gesteckt werden. Der Bestand lässt sich durch Rückschnitt leicht formen, was auch die Verzweigung der Triebe und buschigen Wuchs fördert. Die Vermehrung ist leicht durch Kopf- und Teilstecklinge.
Diese Rotala-Rarität wirkt am besten als dichter, etwa 20 - 40 cm hoher Bestand im Mittel- oder Hintergrund eines Aquariums. Sie zieht mit ihrer feinen Textur und auffälligen Farbtönen die Blicke auf sich.
