Description
Rotala ramosior ist eine einjährige Pflanze aus Feuchtgebieten von Nord- bis Südamerika, die auch in Asien eingebürgert vorkommt. Sie bildet unter Wasser gerade, wenig verzweigte, mindestens 20 cm lange Stängel. Es gibt verschiedene Formen dieser Art im Aquarienhobby. "Florida" hat länglich-eiförmige Blätter, die bei zusagenden Bedingungen auffällige hell-lila Töne zeigt. Blatt-Mittelrippe, Blattbasis und Stängel sind im Kontrast dazu hellgrün. Die Triebe werden ungefähr 2,5 cm breit. Die Blätter sind etwa 13 mm lang und 4 mm breit.

Rotala ramosior "Florida" wächst im Aquarium mäßig schnell. Sie ist eine anspruchsvolle, lichtliebende Pflanze; CO2-Düngung und konstante Makro- und Mikronährstoffversorgung sind zu empfehlen. Auch Düngung über das Substrat ist von Vorteil. Besonders Jungpflanzen aus In vitro-Kultur sollten nur in bereits eingefahrene, gut laufende Aquarien eingesetzt werden. So wie andere Stängelpflanzen lässt sich diese Rotala durch Stecklinge vermehren. Allerdings muss man dabei behutsam vorgehen. Rotala ramosior verträgt starken Rückschnitt schlecht und hat auch nur eine geringe Vermehrungsrate. Stehengelassene Stängelstümpfe gehen nach tiefem Schnitt oft ein anstatt dass sie Seitentriebe bilden. Am besten lässt man die Pflanzen einige Zeit ungestört wachsen und schneidet dann Kopfstecklinge weiter oben. Sind die verbliebenen Stängel vital genug, bilden sie einige Seitentriebe, die wiederum zur Vermehrung dienen können. So kann man durch selektiven Schnitt und Neustecken von Trieben eine Pflanzengruppe heranziehen.
Rotala ramosior "Florida" ist mit ihrem geraden Wuchs und Farbkontrast zwischen lila getönten Tönen und grünen Stängeln eine besondere Erscheinung im Aquarium. Die Pflanze sieht am schönsten als frei stehende Gruppe im Mittelgrund aus.
