Description
The WabiKusa Substrate Balls, also called Dirt Balls, are handmade basic balls for the uncomplicated creation of Wabi-Kusa, the composition of which the Czech manufacturer OPAquatics has optimised through months of testing. They contain only natural materials and a durable substrate mixture. Contrary to the assumption that might be raised by the name Dirt Balls, the composition of the Substrate Balls does not cloud the water and does not change its pH-value.
Available in diameters of approx. 6 cm and approx. 8 cm, the Substrate Balls offer a nice possibility to create single Wabi-Kusa or to set up several Wabi-Kusa Balls as preparation for a large aquascape.

In terrascapes, the Substrate Balls can equally be used to cultivate emersed aquatic plants (growing above the surface), as the materials used in the Dirt Balls are very good water reservoirs as well as transporters.

Plants that are very well suited for cultivation in the WabiKusa Substrate Balls are, for example, the not very demanding Bacopa monnieri 'Compact', Hydrocotyle leucocephala oder Juncus repens as well as most mosses. But even more demanding aquatic plants can be kept without any problems with the help of Dirt Balls if they are provided with the appropriate care - always moist Substrate Ball and high humidity.

Application
The Substrate Balls are supplied unplanted. The balls must be immersed in water for at least 24 hours before planting so that they are completely soaked. After that, it can be designed. It is recommended to use small and sharp tweezers for this.
OPAquatics
The young Czech company OPAquaristik specializes in the distribution of articles for plant cultivation and places particular emphasis on minimalist designs for Wabi Kusas and also vivariums and nano aquariums. Some selected products are even painstakingly handcrafted in small numbers by the plant enthusiasts.
