Description
At least two variants of this Aponogeton are in cultivation. The variant from Laos mainly grows floating leaves in the aquarium, which are around 7 x 2 cm large. This plant flowers readily and frequently pushes its white pleasant-smelling flower spikes over the waterline.
A nutrient-rich substrate and medium to strong lights are recommendable, but apart from these, this Aponogeton is quite undemanding. Different from several other Aponogeton species, it does not take a dormant phase under aquarium conditions. Young plants first develop elongate submerged leaves and later floating leaves with long, slender petioles. Sometimes the inflorescences set fruits with seeds; occasionally daughter rosettes appear on old tubers which can be cut off for propagation.
With its floating leaves and flowers, Aponogeton robinsonii is especially attractive in open tanks and bigger paludariums.
Please be aware that the submerse form of this plant could contain snails and other invertebrates.
Aponogeton robinsonii is found in central and southern Vietnam as well as in Laos in slow-flowing rivers with very soft water, on muddy as well as on rocky substrate. It was first imported as aquarium plant in 1981 by Ingo Hertel, and is not a very common plant today.
This Aponogeton is very variable, and at least two varieties are in cultivation, too. The "standard" form of A. robinsonii mainly forms submersed leaves in the aquarium, which are band-shaped, transparent, olive to dark green and long-stalked. Another form presumably originating from Laos mainly forms floating leaves in the aquarium and thus is best suited for open tanks.

Schöne kräftige Pflanze, die bei Aquasabi auch schon unter Wasser kultiviert wurde. Und sie kam sogar mit 3!!! Blüten. Happy. :-)
