Description
Rotala ramosior is an annual plant from wetlands from North to South America that is also naturalised in Asia. In submerged culture, it develops straight, hardly ramified, at least 20 cm long stems. There are different forms of the species in the aquarium hobby. "Florida" has elongate-ovate leaves that are purple toned under favorable conditions; the stems are green. The shoots reach a width of about 2.5 cm. The leaves are about 13 mm long and 4 mm wide.
Leaf structure of the submerged leaves
Rotala ramosior "Florida" has a moderate growth rate under aquarium conditions. It is a demanding, light-loving plant; soft water and constant CO2 and macro- and micronutrient supply are recommended. As well as other stem plants, it can be propagated by cuttings.
With its straight growth habit and contrast between purple leaves and green stems, Rotala sp. "Florida" is a special gem in the aquarium. It looks best as a solitary group in the midground.
Please be aware that the bunch/potted variation of this plant could contain snails and other invertebrates.
