Description
Neoregelia 'Astra' is a stunning rainforest bromeliad from Brazil, known for its vibrant appearance and adaptability. Neoregelia 'Astra' displays its impressive colours, with striking pink tones that contrast beautifully with the greenish leaf accents. This colouring makes 'Astra' a popular choice for decorating terrariums, where it adds a touch of tropical beauty.
The plant presents a robust rosette shape characteristic of bromeliads, with broad leaves that curve elegantly outwards. The deep pink leaves are concentrated in the centre of the rosette, suggesting that 'Astra' could also display its characteristic central flower under terrarium conditions. Placed in a semi-shaded area of a terrarium, Neoregelia 'Astra' will require regular watering to maintain the magnificent colour and health of the leaves. During the growing season in spring and summer, the plant should be fertilised every fortnight with a special orchid and tillandsia fertiliser to ensure optimal nutrient uptake.
Another interesting feature of this species is its ability to form suckers at the base of the mother plant after flowering. These pups can grow together to form an impressive, voluminous bush if not removed, providing a dense and rich planting that is particularly effective in larger terrariums. The plant is not only easy to care for but also extremely decorative, making it an ideal inhabitant for rainforest-like terrarium environments.
