Pads of the moss species Leucobryum glaucum, the Large White-moss or Pincushion moss, are called Cushion moss in the trade. This moss occurs naturally on acidic forest soils. The thick, bulging cushions are glossy light green when moist, whitish when dry. The diameter of the individual pads can vary. In total, a 500 ml-portion can cover approximately 20 x 15 cm ground. Sometimes other forest moss species can be found in the cushions of the Large white-moss.

The living cushion moss pads are a popular natural decoration material for humid terrariums. They gradually evaporate the absorbed water and thus contribute to an evenly humid microclimate. This cushion-forming moss is ideal for cool-temperature forest terrariums, but can also last a long time in tropical terrariums. A prerequisite for a long life is regular moistening with soft water. However, waterlogging should be avoided to prevent rotting. Due to the acidic pH and nutrient-poor conditions, peat is particularly well-suited for cultivating this moss.
Lay out the pads on the bottom of the container. You can also use small pieces for this purpose. These can also be used to fill gaps between hardscape elements (wood and stones). Tillandsias and other epiphytic bromeliads can also be placed as unrooted plants in or between the moss cushions. Likewise, you can cover the base of ground plants with the moss, or simply embed the root ball of potted plants between the moss cushions.

Our terrarium plants give every terrarium an individual, natural atmosphere and at the same time provide a healthy environment for all terrarium inhabitants. Our wide range of tropical, subtropical and even arid plants are easy to combine and enhance any terrascape. Whether it's strong succulents, subtle tillandsias, eye-catching neoregelias or wonderful orchids - we offer terrarium plants for different terrascapes from rainforest to desert.
