Description
From Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti) comes the Caribbean orchid Tolumnia scandens and grows there as an epiphyte on trees in humid tropical forests. This species is also called climbing orchid, because it carries its flowers on a very long stem. The leaves are dark green shiny and have a linear-lanceolate shape. The showy flowers of T. scandens bear colors ranging from creamy white to yellow and have a pink labellum. The petals and sepals are short and narrow, giving the flower a delicate appearance.
T. scandens is a unique and beautiful orchid species that will add a tropical touch to any terrarium.
This orchid grows best in temperate rainforest and subtropical moist forest terrariums.
