Description
Tillandsia fuchsii is a Tillandsia native to Central America (Mexico to Guatemala). The narrow, rigid, gray-green leaves form a rosette. In the flowering season (June to August), T. fuchsii bears light purple tubular flowers that are arranged in spikes.
T. fuchsii belongs to the "grey" Tillandsias that are adapted to a drier environment than the "green" or rainforest Tillandsias and prefers a very bright, airy place in the terrarium without permanent humidity. These "air plants" take up nutrients and water exclusively from the atmosphere with the help of many small suction scales on their leaves. For this purpose it is recommended to spray the Tillandsie daily with soft water dripping wet in summer, in winter it is sufficient 1 - 2 times a week. its recommended to add Orchid and Tillandsia fertilizer every second watering during the spring- and summertime. As with almost all Tillandsia species, T. fuchsii also forms several pups at its base after bloom. These can be carefully separated when they reach a size of about one third of the mother plant. If they are not separated, they will grow together into a larger tuft.
This easy and sturdy Tillandsia remains relatively compact and integrates beautifully into a small or medium desert or steppe terrarium.
