This precise total hardness water test is highly suitable for the use in aquaristics and stands out especially by its long useful life and the great number of tests that are possible.
Complexometric titration(basis for the reaction in analogy to DIN 38406-3 E3) Copper(II) ions can delay the indicator colour change and, if the concentration is higher, even block it totally. If you use tap water from copper pipes, please drain a sufficient amount of water before testing.
Total hardness of the water is based on its content of alkaline earth ions (calcium and magnesium ions). This content depends on the geological conditions in the source area of the water and the area it passes through afterwards, and it differs from region to region. Knowing the total hardness is important when water is used for industrial and municipal purposes, e.g. in the household for washing or for feeding boilers in industry. Residual hardness plays a role when boiler feed water in steam boiler systems, drinking water and rainwater need to be tested.
- Measuring range: 1 drop = 1 °dH
