Description
Jun Platinum Soil Black is an active substrate with a grain size of 3,0 – 5,0 mm for freshwater aquariums, made from natural black earth granules. It continuously creates soft, slightly acidic water and is especially suitable for planted aquariums and for keeping sensitive shrimp species such as Caridina. The substrate is made from 100% natural soil sourced in Japan and contributes to stable pH levels through its buffering capacity.
Excess phosphate is effectively bound, which helps to reduce algae growth and improve water clarity. The weakly acidic buffering effect results in a measured pH value of approximately 5,14 (in distilled water with a pH of 6,0). In rare cases, a white residue may appear on the substrate, but it is harmless to plants and livestock.

Note
The buffering capacity of active soil may interfere with water conditioners and pH-active care products. It is recommended to use soil only with reverse osmosis water, adjusted with appropriate remineralization (e.g., GH+). Not suitable for aquariums using hard tap water. In rare cases, a white deposit may form on the substrate, but it is safe for both plants and animals.
Application
Add the soil dry and unwashed directly into the aquarium. If needed, a nutrient layer can be placed underneath the soil for long-term nutrient supply. Fill height depends on the layout, typically 4–8 cm. Fill water slowly and in a controlled manner to prevent stirring up the substrate.
