Description
Hypoestes phyllostachya 'Pink', commonly known as the spotted plant or polka dot plant, is a charming and colorful addition to any terrarium. Originally from Madagascar, this species belongs to the acanthus family and is characterized by its eye-catching, pink-spotted leaves. The plant prefers a warm, humid microclimate, similar to its natural tropical habitat, making it ideal for keeping in a terrarium. Indirect, bright lighting without direct sunlight together with evenly moist soil promote healthy growth. Hypoestes phyllostachya 'Pink' is particularly prized not only for its ease of care, but also for its ability to thrive in the humid environment of a terrarium.
In the terrarium, Hypoestes phyllostachya 'Pink' not only offers visual appeal thanks to its vibrant leaf coloration, but also structural diversity thanks to its compact and bushy growth habit. Although the plant is mainly cultivated for its decorative leaves, it also produces small, inconspicuous, pale purple to white flowers that appear in spikes at the tips of the stems. These flowers may not be as showy as the foliage, but add an extra layer of interest, especially when presented in a well-designed terrarium. The combination of its attractive appearance, adaptability to terrarium conditions and ease of care makes Hypoestes phyllostachya 'Pink' an excellent choice.
