Description

This small orchid wild type with white and light purple flowers is native to southern South America. Still commonly known as Laelia lundii, it is nowadays counted among Cattleya. It grows in Bolivia, southern Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina as an epiphyte on trees, in tropical climate with dry season. The species is variable, and "Coerulea" is one of several forms. The plant gets about 15 cm high. Pseudobulbs with mostly 2 narrow leaves develop on a rhizome with grey-green adhesive roots. When the plant is cultivated with day light, the inflorescences appear in winter and spring. They produce mostly two flowers that are about 3 - 4 cm wide.

Cattleya lundii 'Coerulea' is an epiphyte for tropical terrariums that remains quite small and delights by its pretty fragrant flowers.
