Description

Rocket River Sand from the WIOdecor Sands series by the manufacturer WIO is a decorative, shady sand with a mixture of light and dark grey grains, resembling a real natural riverbed habitat. The substrate has a slightly variable grain size between 0.1 - 3 mm.
Due to its natural dark colour, this sand is perfect for biotope aquariums that replicate a lake, river, pond, or stream environment from the Amazon, West Africa, or the tropics of Asia.

Sand is usually a passive substrate, which does not provide nutrients for aquarium plants. Therefore, when setting up an aquarium with sand as the only substrate, it may be necessary to use substrate fertilisers. With fertiliser balls or tablets, specific areas of the aquarium can be enriched with nutrients, so that especially heavily root-feeding plants, such as Cryptocorynes, can benefit.

Note

All WIOdecor sands are pre-washed. However, the manufacturer recommends rinsing the sand briefly with cold water before use to wash off any transport-related abrasion. This will also prevent sand grains from floating when filling the aquarium.

Warnings:

Dust may mechanically irritate eyes and skin. Avoid contact and rinse with water if necessary.
Inhaling dust can cause irritation of the respiratory tract. Handle the product only in well-ventilated areas.
Risk of slipping on spilled material. Clean up immediately.
Swallowing small amounts by children or pets is possible. Not a toy. Keep out of reach.

General Notes:

Dust may be generated when adding or moving dry sand. Unwashed sand may cause initial cloudiness.
Introducing large amounts of sand at once into an established aquarium can bind detritus and cause temporary fluctuations in water values.
Using cotton filter media can quickly clog filters.
Before use, rinse thoroughly in a clean bucket until the water is mostly clear.
Introduce slowly into the aquarium, avoiding sudden changes in depth. Cloudiness is possible initially and clears up with filtration. If needed, apply fine mechanical filtration for 24 to 48 hours.
Most variants are silicate-based and largely inert. In rare cases, traces of carbonates may be present. Especially in soft or low-buffered water, monitor pH and KH values.
Colour tone, grain size, form, and texture may vary slightly between batches and with lighting.
Product is not suitable as a toy. Keep out of reach of children and animals. Do not swallow.
Avoid deep stirring to prevent the release of detritus. Only vacuum the surface gently.

Handling Instructions:

Preparation: Rinse thoroughly and remove foreign objects.
Distribution: Spread evenly. Do not compact too much in the aquarium. Form gentle slopes for layout.
Water Filling: Place a plate or plastic foil on the substrate and pour water slowly over it.
Start Phase: Run filtration continuously. Perform partial water changes if necessary until the water is clear.
Ongoing Care: Vacuum gently. Avoid disturbing dust.
Compatibility: Suitable for fish, shrimp, and plants when used properly. Always acclimate animals carefully and monitor water values during the first weeks.
