Mulchbed Biotope Roots from the WIOdecor BiotopeBeds series by manufacturer WIO is a carefully selected mix of bark, roots, branches, small pieces of wood, mimicking the wood-based organic matter which naturally occurs in natural habitats.
The selected materials possess the unique feature that once waterlogged, they will remain at the bottom of the aquarium and will not decompose for years. Mulchbed can be used in aquariums, paludariums and terrariums, creating an ideal and realistic biotope impression. It presents great benefits for fauna by providing natural acids, organic nutrients and hiding places. Moreover, Mulchbed brings new possibilities to the biotope creator, aquascaper, rainforest artist or vivarium enthusiast as it will add additional detail, complexity and wabi-sabi effect to your designs. Mulchbed can be mixed with Woodbed Biotope Roots for further complexity and realism.

Application

Rinse complete content of the bag under running water
Fill the bag or a bucket with warm water and set for 24h
Then, rinse carefully to clear any remaing dust
The woods pieces will be waterlogged and ready to be easily spread in the aquarium bottom or as forest floor in emersed displays

Product safety

Caution: Risk of ingestion

Warning notes:

Dust may cause irritation to eyes or skin. Avoid contact and rinse with water if necessary.
Inhalation of dust may cause respiratory irritation. Ensure proper ventilation when handling.
Mechanical injury may occur from splinters or sharp edges. Handle with care.
Keep out of reach of children and pets. Risk of choking or injury if ingested or handled improperly.
Introduction of uncured wood may cause sudden changes in water parameters or release floating debris.
Improper use in wet, unventilated environments may encourage mould growth.

General notes:

Product may release tannins and humic substances which can lower pH. Monitor water parameters accordingly.
Biofilm formation is common during initial use and usually harmless. It may be siphoned if desired.
Expect water discolouration and amber tint in natural biotope setups.
Natural variations in shape and surface texture are typical due to the organic nature of the product.

Handling notes:

Rinse thoroughly before use to remove debris.
Cure by boiling for approximately 20 minutes or soaking in warm water for 24 to 72 hours, changing water daily.
Introduce gradually, especially in aquariums with low KH or GH, to prevent sudden changes in pH.
Arrange carefully in the desired locations. Avoid placing sharp edges in animal paths.
Wear gloves if necessary to avoid splinters. Wash hands after handling.
In terrariums or paludariums, use in dry conditions with ventilation to prevent mould growth.
Anchor under existing hardscape if floating occurs. Replace or trim as the material softens over time.
Perform partial water changes if water darkens more than desired. Monitor pH, KH and GH regularly.
