Description
This miniature orchid is a hybrid of the equally small species Trisetella hoeijeri from Ecuador and T. tenuissima from Panama and Colombia. Both species occur as epiphytes on trees in tropical mountain rainforests. Trisetella hoeijeri × tenuissima forms a small, dense, approximately 6 cm high bush of short shoots with linear-lanceolate leaves. Thick, green adhesive roots develop at the base. Unfortunately, we have no information on what the flowers of this hybrid look like exactly. Their shape is described as triangular. The interestingly shaped, delicate flowers of the two parent species are quite different from each other. They sit individually on long, slender stalks and have elongated lower petals, spread horizontally in T. hoeijeri and pointing downwards in T. tenuissima.
Trisetella hoeijeri × tenuissima grows in a temperate to warm place with increased air humidity and good air circulation, moderately bright to bright, but in daylight cultivation rather semi-shaded without direct sunlight. The plant should be watered by spraying it regularly with soft water, allowing it to dry off in between. An orchid fertiliser can occasionally be added to the water.
This tiny orchid fits well in small containers as a perching plant. In keeping with the origin of its parent species, it is suitable for tropical rainforest and mountain forest terrariums that are not too warm.
