Plants of the genus Hygrophila which are cultivated emersedly can occaisonally show small, firm tissue overgrowths ("pustules") on their upper and lower leave side. These are completely harmless and not caused by pest infestation or disease. On newly sprouted submerged leaves these spots will no longer appear.

Description

Hygrophila corymbosa 'Stricta Green' is an attractive green-leaved form of the Giant Hygro from Southeast Asia. It is distinguished by its rich green, relatively narrow leaves and its upright, bushy growth habit. Like the typical Hygrophila corymbosa, it can grow both submerged and emersed.

This fast-growing stem plant is exceptionally hardy, easy to care for, and therefore an excellent choice for beginners. It grows reliably under moderate lighting but develops a particularly compact, dense habit under stronger light. CO2 supplementation and regular nutrient dosing promote vigour and larger leaves but are not essential for successful cultivation. Owing to its eventual size, Hygrophila corymbosa 'Stricta Green' is particularly well suited to the midground or background of larger aquariums.

Regular trimming encourages strong branching, allowing the plant to develop into dense, bushy groups. It is ideal for creating plant streets in the Dutch aquarium style or as a striking background specimen. If allowed to grow above the water surface, it produces attractive pale blue to violet flowers, making it an eye-catching feature in open aquariums as well.
