Description
Fontinalis antipyretica var. gigantea is a large, strong variant of the willow moss, Fontinalis antipyretica. It is found in Europe, amongst other regions, where it usually is found in calm waters. This uncommonly large aquatic moss has dense foliage, branches readily and thus grows into impressively dense dark green bushes, which somewhat remind of conifers. Under strong lights, this moss may assume a golden green hue. The shoots can grow to a width of almost 1 cm. "Giant Willow moss" will do best under medium to strong light, the addition of CO2 and a good nutrient supply. It is ideal for cold-water tanks as well as for tropical tanks that are not overly warm. If temperatures are above 26 °C permanently the moss might suffer, however, we do not have vast experience regarding this subject. Fontinalis antipyretica var. gigantea is most impressive when it is attached to driftwood or rocks or if some shoots are bound together with thread to form small tufts. You can attach these tufts to the back pane of your tank e.g. with the help of suction cups, or bind then onto twigs of the driftwood to mimic a tree. This moss will not cling to the substrate by rhizoids.
Fontinalis antipyretica var. gigantea is one of several varieties of the common willow moss. This strong moss grows especially large and is mainly found in stagnant or slow-flowing waters, e.g. in shaded lakes in the woods.
In comparison with varietys of F. antipyretica found in flowing water, F. antipyretica var. gigantea has larger, wider leaves with a more obtuse tip that grow at wider angles on the stem.

Ich habe eine schöne Portion Quellmoos ( Fontinalis antipyretica var. gigantea) bekommen. Schöne große Blätter, und lange kräftige grüne Triebe. Ich bin begeistert...!!! (read more)

Schöne große Portion, produziert ohne Ende Sauerstoff. Musste es mit einen Stein befestigen, da es ständig aufreibt. Jetzt dünn ich's regelmässig aus.
