Description

Tigris River from the WIO Sands series by the manufacturer WIO is an extremely decorative, pale yellow quartz sand with various natural, light earthy tones and a slightly variable grain size of 0,1 - 4 mm.
The sand appears particularly natural and creates a warm colour accent in the scape. It can be used to recreate a clear mountain stream just as well as a small suggested pathway.

Tigris River Sand dry/wet

Tigris River Sand – left dry, right wet

A scape can be set up as a South American aquarium using pure Tigris River sand as the substrate, but thanks to its warm colour nuances it is also suitable as decorative sand for other purposes.

Sand is generally a passive substrate that does not provide nutrients for aquarium plants. Therefore, when setting up an aquarium using sand as the sole substrate, the use of substrate fertiliser may be necessary. Nutrients can be added specifically to certain areas of the aquarium using fertiliser balls or tablets, which especially benefits heavy root-feeding plants such as Cryptocorynes.

Features

  • Natural quartz sand
  • Pale yellow colour tones
  • Grain size from 0,1 to max. 4 mm (mixed)
  • Does not harden the water
  • Available in 2 kg packages

Note

All WIO decor sand varieties are pre-washed. Nevertheless, the manufacturer recommends briefly rinsing the sand with cold water before use to remove abrasion caused during transport. This also helps prevent sand particles from floating up when filling the aquarium.

Product Safety

Caution: risk of swallowing

Warnings:

  • Dust may mechanically irritate eyes and skin. Avoid contact and rinse with water if necessary.
  • Inhalation of dust may cause respiratory irritation. Handle the product only in well-ventilated areas.
  • Slip hazard if material is spilled. Remove immediately.
  • Small amounts may be swallowed by children or pets. Not a toy. Keep out of reach.

General information:

  • Dust may form when pouring or moving dry sand. Unwashed sand may cause initial cloudiness.
  • Adding large amounts at once to an established aquarium can bind detritus and cause temporary fluctuations in water parameters.
  • Use with cotton filter media may clog filters quickly.
  • Rinse thoroughly in a clean bucket before use until the water is mostly clear.
  • Add slowly to the aquarium and avoid sudden depth changes. Initial cloudiness is possible and will clear through filtration. If necessary, use fine mechanical filtration for 24 - 48 hours.
  • Most variants are silicate-based and largely inert. In some cases, traces of carbonates may be present. Monitor pH and KH values, especially in soft or low-buffer water.
  • Colour, grain size, shape and grading may vary slightly depending on batch and lighting.
  • Product is not suitable as a toy. Keep away from children and animals. Do not ingest.
  • Avoid deep stirring to prevent release of detritus. Only gently vacuum the surface.

Handling instructions:

  • Preparation: Rinse thoroughly and remove foreign objects.
  • Distribution: Spread evenly. Do not compact too much in the aquarium. Create gentle slopes for layout design.
  • Filling water: Place a plate or plastic sheet on the substrate and pour water slowly over it.
  • Start phase: Keep filtration running continuously. Perform partial water changes if necessary until the water is clear.
  • Ongoing maintenance: Vacuum carefully. Avoid stirring up dust.
  • Compatibility: Suitable for fish, shrimp and plants when used correctly. Always acclimatise animals carefully and monitor water parameters during the first weeks.
