Description
UNS Controsoil Black – Normal is a high-quality soil substrate designed for planted aquariums and aquascapes. This natural substrate consists of a blend of soil and volcanic ash and provides ideal conditions for healthy plant growth. The structured granule form ensures good oxygen circulation within the substrate and allows aquarium plant roots to develop optimally.
Unlike many heavily pre-fertilised aquarium substrates, Controsoil releases only small amounts of ammonium. This significantly reduces the risk of ammonia spikes during the cycling phase. At the same time, the substrate can absorb impurities from the water and supports the colonisation of beneficial bacteria that are essential for a stable biological balance in the aquarium.
Controsoil also buffers the pH and can lower carbonate hardness (KH), creating slightly acidic water conditions. These water parameters are ideal for many aquatic plants as well as shrimp and tropical ornamental fish. The “Normal” granule size is particularly suitable for larger aquariums and plants with stronger root systems and provides a stable foundation for long-term healthy planted aquariums.
The substrate does not need to be rinsed before use and can be added directly to the aquarium. This allows a planted aquarium to be set up quickly and easily.
In addition to the black standard granule size, Controsoil is also available in a brown standard granule size. For finer layouts and smaller aquariums, the variants Black Fine and Black Extra Fine are recommended, which are particularly suitable for foreground plants, smaller root systems and nano aquariums.

Application
The substrate should not be rinsed before use. After setting up the aquarium, slight water cloudiness may occur but will clear quickly through filtration and water changes.
Controsoil is added directly to the aquarium as a substrate and does not need to be rinsed beforehand. An even substrate layer provides plants with a stable base for rooting. During the initial cycling phase, regular water changes are recommended to stabilise the water parameters.

Cleaning
For maintenance of the substrate, it is recommended to regularly siphon off debris during water changes. The substrate should only be cleaned lightly at the surface to preserve the biologically active layers and beneficial bacteria within the soil.

- Do not eat or ingest the product and do not eat, drink or smoke while handling it.

Handling instructions:
- Carefully sweep up or vacuum spilled material to minimise dust formation.
- Do not allow product residues to enter drains or sewage systems.
