Description
Rotala rotundifolia "Hong Kong" is an attractive new form of the Dwarf Rotala. It is characterised by its particularly fine, compact growth habit. Similar to R. rotundifolia "Gia Lai / H'Ra", the shoots often grow horizontally to trailing and branch very strongly. However, the narrow submerged leaves of "Hong Kong" develop a more orange-red coloration under the same conditions.
Like other forms of Rotala rotundifolia, "Hong Kong" grows quickly and is easy to cultivate. It performs well even under moderate lighting, but only develops its full colour intensity and characteristic compact growth form under strong lighting, stable CO2 supply, and a balanced macro- and micronutrient fertilisation regime. Regular trimming keeps it particularly dense and encourages continuous formation of new side shoots, allowing very uniform, richly structured plant bushes to be created. Propagation is simple via stem cuttings, which root quickly and form dense stands.
Rotala rotundifolia "Hong Kong" is highly suitable as a midground to background bush and is ideal for detailed plant groupings in small to medium-sized aquariums. Due to its compact, trailing growth habit, it creates attractive accents in highly structured layouts and forms an appealing contrast to large-leaved stem plants. When combined with differently coloured forms of Rotala rotundifolia, it also provides varied and vibrant colour transitions in the aquascape.
