Pogostemon deccanensis, die Indische Sternpflanze, unterscheidet sich sehr von den herkömmlichen Pogostemon-Arten im Aquarienhobby. Die Pflanze wurde ursprünglich unter dem irrtümlichen Namen Rotala verticillaris eingeführt und dann als Pogostemon erectus bestimmt. Sie ist heute noch allgemein unter dem Namen P. erectus bekannt. Allerdings hat sich die Pflanze als die eng verwandte Art Pogostemon deccanensis herausgestellt. In diesem Wiki-Artikel gehen wir ausführlich darauf ein.
Submerse Blattform der Pogostemon deccanensis
Die Stängel sind sehr dicht mit hellgrünen, nadelartig schmalen Blättern besetzt und wirken besonders schön in dichten Gruppen im Hinter- oder Mittelgrund. Gute Beleuchtung (mindestens 0,5 W/L), CO2-Zugabe und regelmäßige Düngung vorausgesetzt, ist diese Pogostemon-Art nicht besonders schwierig. In emerser Kultur bilden sich prächtige kerzenartige Blütenstände mit charakteristischem Duft, wenn die Pflanze sehr viel Licht erhält.
Pogostemon erectus was originally collected for aquaristical purposes in the western Indian state Maharashtra, and it was presented under the erronous name "Rotala verticillaris". During the last years it has been used in many aquaria - mainly in the USA, but increasingly in Europe, too. At first glance, it looks a lot like Rotala verticillaris and some varieties of R. mexicana, however, its submersed growth differs from both by its more strictly upright growth habit and overall larger dimensions. Its emersed form makes the differences even clearer: whereas R. verticillaris and R. mexicana, both belonging to the Lythraceae family, have rather inconspicuous flowers sitting in the leaf axils, Pogostemon erectus, of the Lamiaceae family, shows highly distinct, decorative flower spikes with violet flowers, quite similar to those of the other Pogostemon species known.
