Description

Among the multiform ornamental peppers, Peperomia tetragona is a special gem. This more or less creeping plant comes from rainforests from Ecuador to central Brazil and Paraguay. Its broadly lanceolate, firm, leathery leaves, up to about 6,5 cm long, have conspicuous bright, parallel longitudinal veins, hence its English name "Parallel Peperomia". The plant grows to about 60 cm tall, but usually remains smaller. The shoots grow overhanging to prostrate.

Peperomia tetragona grows well in a loose soil that should neither dry out nor become waterlogged. When the plant is well rooted, it can be supplied with a houseplant fertiliser. High humidity is favourable, but not necessary. A bright, but not full sunny place is preferred. The most favourable temperatures are around 18-24 °C.

This Peperomia is a taller, slow-growing ground cover with striking foliage. In smaller containers, individual plants make an interesting accent. Peperomia tetragona is suitable for rainforest or humid forest terrariums.
