Description
'Red Devil' is a relatively small, narrow-leaved Echinodorus cultivar bred by Tomas Kaliebe. Under water it develops red leaves with slightly undulating margins and grows to a height of around 20 cm.
Echinodorus 'Red Devil' is usually supplied in its emersed (terrestrial) form, in which it has rather green, sturdier leaves with longer leaf stalks. Once planted in the aquarium, it begins to produce its colourful submerged foliage.
Like virtually all Echinodorus, 'Red Devil' grows best in a nutrient-rich substrate. At least moderate lighting is recommended, while stronger light enhances the red colouration. The ideal temperature range is between 22 and 28 °C.
Echinodorus 'Red Devil' is distinguished by its narrow leaves and relatively compact size. It is also well suited to smaller aquaria and is most effective as a single specimen or in a small, loose group in the midground, or in the foreground of larger aquaria.
