Description

This intensively green plant with brown colour hues is a beautiful and well-spread plant originally coming from Sri Lanka. It belongs to the species group of C. wendtii. It has been cultivated in the hobby for over 60 years. beckettii is not hard to propagate. It forms adventitious plants on runners under the substrate and on the rhizome of the mother plant, which can be cut off and re-planted.

This intensively coloured plant with its green and brown colour nuances is a beautiful, very widely spread Cryptocoryne spp. from Sri Lanka. It belongs in the C. wendtii group, it is readily available and it has been in use in aquaristics for over 60 years.

It is very easy to cultivate, and possesses the typical characteristics of a Cryptocoryne from Sri Lanka. It adapts well to soft as well as to hard water, light is relatively unimportant, even though it grows better under more intensive light. The brown-green rosettes that form soon after the plant is placed in the tank spread quickly and form dense bushes. Nutrient-rich substrates enhance growth. The plant reacts nicely to ample fertilisation and to CO2, but it grows sufficiently well without these components, too. It may be cultivated emersed in moist substrates rich in nutrients, where it is known to flower. (read more)

Cryptocoryne beckettii - Pot
Cryptocoryne beckettii - Pot

A robust and darker coloured easy maintained Crypt. Nice contrast to lighter green plants. Perfect for the middle ground, when planted in groups and growing in dense stands!
