Description
Begonia × albopicta is a hybrid of the South American species Begonia maculata and B. olbia. It is known by various names such as: Coral Begonia, Trout Begonia, Crooked Leaf or Little Flowering Wonder. It owes these many names to its narrowly shaped leaves, whose silvery dots are reminiscent of trouts. The pink or white hanging flower clusters also contribute to the name. This Begonia is one of the most floriferous of its genus. Over a long period of time, it keeps producing new inflorescences.
Begonia × albopicta is an impressive plant for large terrariums. It fills corners and can also be pulled up with climbing aids. This Begonia prefers moist but not dripping soil with good drainage. Its location can range from bright to shady, only direct sunlight should be avoided. For optimal growth, its large leaves should be kept free of dust. The Coral Begonia can be propagated by head cuttings.
