Description

'Jade' is a new cultivar of Anubias barteri var. nana. The cultivar name refers to jade, the most important gemstone in China. The leaf colouring and patterning of this small Anubias is reminiscent of the jade with its multiple shades of green and often a special grain in the form of small veins, stripes and spots. The growth height is about 3 - 5 cm.

The Dwarf Anubias with its various forms is a decidedly easy, albeit slow-growing plant. Anubias barteri var. nana is primarily a perching plant and attaches itself with its roots to hard materials such as wood or stones. It can also be attached to the substrate, but the rhizome should not be buried, otherwise it could rot. This Anubias will grow under very low light levels as well as under strong light. Adding CO2 is not absolutely necessary, but it is beneficial for growth. Especially in strong light, a complete nutrient supply via the water column is recommended. The plant is tolerant of water values, it grows in very soft to hard water and at pH values between 5 and 9. The optimum temperature range is around 22 and 28 °C. Propagation is done by dividing the rootstock (rhizome) and cutting off side shoots.

This Anubias cultivar is particularly recommended as a perching plant for small aquariums and for aquascaping. The light leaf colour of Anubias barteri var. nana 'Jade' forms an effective contrast to dark green plants in the foreground.
