Description
The precise water test Macherey-Nagel Visocolor ECO total hardness is very well suited for aquaristic use and stands out in particular due to its long durability and many possible measurements.
Complexometric titration(basis for the reaction in analogy to DIN 38406-3 E3) Copper(II) ions can delay the indicator colour change and, if the concentration is higher, even block it totally. If you use tap water from copper pipes, please drain a sufficient amount of water before testing.
Total hardness of the water is based on its content of alkaline earth ions (calcium and magnesium ions). This content depends on the geological conditions in the source area of the water and the area it passes through afterwards, and it differs from region to region. Knowing the total hardness is important when water is used for industrial and municipal purposes, e.g. in the household for washing or for feeding boilers in industry. Residual hardness plays a role when boiler feed water in steam boiler systems, drinking water and rainwater need to be tested.
