Twinstar LED Light
The manufacturer Twinstar offers quite an extensive range of various LED lighting solutions. We explain the differences and decrypt the abbreviations and model designations.
The E-Series was the first LED light, the manufacturer Twinstar introduced to the aquaristic market. This aquarium lighting system is not just equipped with white, but also red, green and blue LEDs (in other words: RGB). The amount of colored LEDs makes the light appear a bit darker to the human eye, but provides a better accentuation of the colors. More information concerning this line of product in particular, can be found here.
The lamps are available in various lengths for standard aquarium sizes. The mountable variants of these lamps are equipped with transparent mounting brackets made of acrylic glass. Furthermore, there are versions in the E-series, whose length can be varied via extendable metal pins. These adjustable variants can be recognized by the designation EA in the model name. The adjustable Twinstar E-Series models have a leeway of 15 to 30 cm in length, depending on the type.
The lights of the S-Series are RGB-equipped aquarium lights as well. This series is Twinstar’s flagship. In comparison to the E-Series, the S-Series’ bodies are built a little wider, improving the aquarium’s illumination. The power (in Watt) of the S models is therefore higher, as well as the RGB percentage. The colour accentuation is significantly better, than in the E-series, too. The standard models of the S-series are equipped with slim yet sturdy dark anodized metal support brackets. Furthermore, variants with adjustable pins (A=adjustable) as well as suspended lights (P=pendant-style) are available. Even more information about this series can be found in this article.
In contrast to the E and S series, this model series only has pure white light-emitting diodes without an RGB component. The lumen output is therefore correspondingly higher. With around 120 Lumen per Watt, the C-series by Twinstar is on par with lighting systems from other renowned manufacturers. Anyone who, as a buyer, focuses on the highest possible power savings, is well-advised with the C series, especially as the purchase price is also very attractive.
The lights from the C-series are equipped with the typical aluminium body and are shipped by default in the adjustable version. In other words: the mountable lights are adjustable in length via moveable metal pins. The C-serie is available in two standard lengths: 30 cm (extendable to ca. 45 cm) and 60 cm (extendable to ca. 70 cm).
A Twinstar model’s designation always consists of a combination of a number and one or more letters. The number designates the length of the light (in Millimeters), respectively the edge length of the aquarium tank, suitable for the respective light.
The letter designates the series of the Twinstar light, therefore E, S or C. If there is another letter behind, it designates the kind of mounting. The letter P stands for pendant-style - so the light is a suspended one. The letter A is the abbreviation for "adjustable". The models work as mountable lights but are adjustable in length. So they are also fit for mounting on custom aquarium tanks with an edge length of 70cm.
An example for a model designation: Twinstar 600SP designates a light for an aquarium with an edge length of 60cm from the S-series in pendant-style.
