Description
The Triangle moss is named after its frond-like, densely branched shoots which often have a triangular outline. It is a still unidentified Vesicularia species that possibly originates from Taiwan. It resembles the "Mini Christmas Moss", however it grows ascending. This well-growing moss is suitable for aquariums as well as paludariums, able to grow above and below the water line.
This moss has slantingly upright dense shoots that ramify at regular intervals. Amongst others, it was carried under the names "Triangle Moss" or "San Jiao Moss" by Bioplast company from Singapore in around 2004. The trade name probably refers to the triangular outline of the ramified shoots. However, other finely ramified mosses of the genus Vesicularia look more or less the same. Its slightly upturned shoot tips somewhat resemble "Erect Moss", Vesicularia reticulata. However, the leaflets of "Triangle Moss" are roundish to oval in their majority, with an acute tip and relatively wide leaf cells, quite similar to those of Christmas moss, Vesicularia montagnei.
In Germany, this moss has been found in trade under the names "Cratonneuron filicinum" or "Vesicularia sp. filicinum". However, it surely does not belong to the moss species correctly spelled Cratoneuron filicinum. (read more)
