Description

This plant is delivered by water plant nurseries as Hygrophila sp. "Pantanal Wavy" and is rarely available in trade. In its terrestrial form, it looks like a larger version of Staurogyne sp. "Porto Velho", and we are confident that it is likewise a Staurogyne, not a Hygrophila species. The trading name "Pantanal Wavy" suggests that the plant was found in the South American Panatanal region, but there's no reliable information about its origin. In its underwater form, it grows looser and bushier than Staurogyne sp. "Porto Velho" - very similar to Staurogyne stolonifera that seemingly has largely vanished from aquarium culture.

We recommend rather strong lighting, CO2 addition and complete macro- and micronutrient supply via the water column. Occasional pruning keeps the bush in the desired size and shape.

With its narrow, light green, curved leaves, Staurogyne sp. "Pantanal Wavy" forms a distinctive bush and looks best in the midground. Experience has still to be gained with this rare, little known aquarium plant.
