Description
Rotala rotundifolia 'Colorata' is also known as Rotala sp. 'Colorata'. It is often mislabeled as "Rotala indica". We have also noticed that plants labeled as Rotala rotundifolia 'Yao Yai' are equal to the 'Colorata' variant.
In comparison with "standard" R. rotundifolia, this Rotala assumes an especially intensive light red to orange red colour, especially if it is under good light. The leaves are narrow lineal. The stems have an overhanging to horizontal growth habit and form dense bushes as they ramify readily, just like Rotala sp. "Green", which is always light green. Rotala sp. 'Colorata' is a good combination partner for it.
Please be aware that the bunch/potted variation of this plant could contain snails and other invertebrates.
This plant was introduced with the name Rotala sp. 'Colorata' and is apparently a form of the very variable species R. rotundifolia. There are several forms of R. rotundifolia in trade that attain a more or less intensive red colour when cultivated submersed, e.g. the plants erroneously sold under the name "Rotala indica". R. rotundifolia 'Colorata' turns a reddish hue even under moderate light. Under strong light it develops a pretty red coloration.
