Description

An uncommon stem plant from North America, and hardly known in Europe. Gratiola virginiana is related to the European Gratiola officinalis, and its habit reminds of some Bacopa species. Its strong stems grow strictly upright and carry long-elliptical, toothed, somewhat undulate leaves with nice light green to reddish-brown colours. The shoots grow to a width of approx. 5 to 7 cm. Gratiola virginiana is best used as independent group of stems differing in length, or maybe for plant streets in a Holland-style tank. If you do not cut and re-plant, the stems will grow out of the water. The plant can be used as semi-emerged plant in open tanks, too. When cultivated emerged it will develop whitish short-lived flowers and capsules with a great number of very small seeds.
