Description
With the name "Grande", we cultivate a larger sized variant of Fissidens fontanus. It is as easy to grow as the smaller Fissidens fontanus "Phoenix moss" and apparently a little more vigorous. The soft, feather-like, medium to dark green shoots have 5-7 mm long leaves with a spacing of about 1,5 mm. Fissidens fontanus "Grande" forms lush, decorative cushions that have a somewhat curly appearance due to the curved leaves.
As well as other mosses, Fissidens fontanus "Grande" is best placed on wood, rock or moss pads by tying or gluing. It develops new shoots from the base where the moss is attached to the ground. All too large cushions should be reduced by trimming or careful plucking, otherwise they will eventually detach themselves. This Fissidens is not demanding and also grows in low light tanks, however it does best with good macro- and micronutrient supply. It also grows well with temperatures below 20 °C.
Fissidens fontanus "Grande" is a recommendable aquatic moss for the hardscape that also looks well in large tanks. With its wide temperature tolerance, it is suited for tropical as well as cold water tanks.
